For the time being, Element 109 is the element with the highest atomic number that has an official name : meitnerium.
One " daughter " in the decay chain proved to be Element 109-268 and a " granddaughter " was Element 107-264.
Based on this information, several scientists and journalists have called her exclusion " unjust ", and Meitner has received a flurry of posthumous honors, including the naming of chemical element 109 as meitnerium in 1997.
Subject to confirmation by the union's members at a meeting in Geneva next August, these will be the names of the six new elements : Element 104, Rutherfordium ( symbol Rf ); Element 105, Dubnium ( symbol Db ); Element 106, Seaborgium ( symbol Sg ); Element 107, Bohrium ( symbol Bh ); Element 108, Hassium ( symbol Hs ), and Element 109, Meitnerium ( symbol Mt ).
